Spinnaker is one of the ten championed missions supported by Christ Church. It provides Christian education to primary schools across the South East and has an active Hub in Epsom & Ewell.
Another challenging year saw some endings and some welcome new beginnings for the team. Hub Leader, Cathy Ellis, began her re-location to a new home in the Lake District and we were delighted to welcome Lisa Bell, Youth and Children Families’ Worker at Epsom Baptist Church, to become the new leader. Lisa has been involved with the Spinnaker team for over 2 years and is an experienced and enthusiastic schools worker who has already made good progress in re-establishing contact with local schools.
After a gap of 18 months our volunteers were very pleased to be invited into 3 schools, including one new one, to share the RE Day, ‘Why do Christians Call God Father?’ and into one school to run a weekly lunchtime Fish Club. This has proved so fruitful that children have had to take turns to attend, with as many as sixty wanting to be part of the story-telling and craft sessions!
The Central Spinnaker Team has also continued to produce and distribute video assemblies to all schools, to be shown in individual classrooms or year groups and these are also available to any other schools via the Spinnaker Website.
This year sees Spinnaker celebrate 35 years of its important ministry. The ‘35 at 35’ campaign aims to raise £35,000 to help continue this work for the future and our individual gifts and contribution from Christ Church will help towards this goal.
Thank you and Happy New Year.
